Our article on Starter Kit Troubleshooting might help, but below are some specific answers related to your Vype ePen:

Instructions

1. Charging the battery

Before using your Vype ePen for the first time, the first thing you should do is ensure the battery is fully charged. The ePen should take no longer than 2 hours to charge. Connect your ePen to your computer's USB port using the charging cable included in the kit. While charging, the LED on the ePen will pulse, with the colour indicating the charge level (red means less than 20% charged, amber means 20-50% charged and green means over 50% charged). When the LED shines with a constant green light, your ePen is fully charged. Note: only use the charger supplied in the starter kit and never leave batteries unattended whilst charging.

2. Using the device

Firstly, insert a Vype ePen cap. To do this, remove the long silicone cover from the battery and screw a cap into place on the battery section of the pen, then replace the silicone cover. The battery is shipped switched off, so you will now need to switch it on. To do this, press either fire button 3 times in quick succession. The LED will flash to indicate the device is on. Once it's switched on and a cartridge is inserted, you can start vaping! To use the ePen, hold either the double-arrow or single-arrow button down and inhale on the mouthpiece; the double-arrow button provides more vapour, while the single arrow produces less. Make sure that you switch the battery off after use to avoid it firing in your pocket, bag, etc.

3. Replacing a cap

Your Vype ePen kit comes with two ePen caps. If you notice your ePen producing less vapour (or none at all), or the quality or taste of the vapour begins to deteriorate, it's time to change your cartridge. To change, remove the silicone cover from the battery, unscrew the old cap, screw on a new one, then replace the cover.

Troubleshooting

1. It's leaking

All e-cigarette kits can be prone to leaking, but given the right care and maintenance this can be avoided. Here are some tips that may help you avoid a leaking ePen:

  • If you are taking consecutive long and deep drags, this can on occasion draw too much e-liquid into the atomising chamber. When this happens, not all of the e-liquid can be vaporised and some then comes up the central airflow. To clear out any excess e-liquid, simply remove the silicone cover from the battery, hold a piece of tissue under the cover and blow through the mouthpiece a few times.
  • Make sure that the ePen hasn’t been left upside down or horizontally for a long time, as this can cause e-liquid to leak.
  • Try changing your cap. Sometimes a leakage issue can be down to a defective cartridge.

2. It won't charge/the battery is dead

If your Vype ePen battery is not charging, firstly try plugging it into a different USB port or wall socket (click here to read our article on battery safety when charging with a plug adaptor). If this doesn't work, try a different charger, but make sure you are using a Vype ePen charging cable. If you have a spare battery, try charging the spare to rule out a faulty charger. You can prolong the life of your batteries by not allowing them to fully discharge; a fully discharged battery is harder to charge, and sometimes, usually if it's older than 2-3 months, it will fail to re-charge when fully depleted. We recommend changing your batteries every 2-3 months or when you notice a drop in performance, or you find yourself recharging your battery more often than usual.

3. I'm getting a burning taste

If your Vype ePen e-cigarette is producing a burnt taste, this almost always means the wicking material inside the cartridge has burnt due to lack of e-liquid. This happens when you attempt to vape when the cap is empty, or when you don't realise the e-liquid level has run low. Simply switch out your old ePen cap for a new one: you can shop our range of Vype ePen caps here!
